All About The Chair - Part 1: The Find

The Find

Determined to find the right first project, I waited and waited. And then I found her, sitting among random items in the sale section of my favorite antique/estate sale haunt.

2 Attics Antique Mall and Estate Liquidations was having a 50% off sale - so the $20 beauty was only $10.

She was wobbly and the fabric was almost brittle, but she clearly had good bones. She was on sale, so the decision to buy was simple. The hardest part lay in front of me - where to start? What to do?

My $10 find - the possibilities were overwhelming

I brought her home, put her outside on the patio, sat in the sun and just stared at her.

I noticed the many tacks holding the fabric down. They were too many in number and spaced unevenly.

It was easy to fall in love with the detailed arms and legs of the chair. Gorgeous and full of possibilities.
The detail on the wood is beautiful.

My trusty companion, Gabby, helped herself to the cushion of the chair as I examined it and took photos. It was a hot August afternoon.

Enjoying the sunshine on a hot summer day.

Having not yet seen the inside bones, I wasn't sure, but it felt like this chair was "over covered." It looked to me like the fabric covered more area that it should have.

As I looked at this chair - the object of my first project - I had trouble taking my eyes off of the most beautiful part of this chair. The part of the chair that was the first to draw my eyes, and the part that I couldn't wait to see in the end - the front wood panel, embellished with beautiful swirls.

Oh! That Swirl!

Stay tuned to see the next stage of the refurbishing!
